Nike Unveils Hybrid Air Max 90 Collection Inspired by Iconic Soccer Cleats

Nike is bridging the gap between running and soccer with an innovative capsule collection that transforms the beloved Air Max 90 silhouette using design elements from legendary football boots. This unique collaboration spans three decades of athletic footwear history, merging distinct sporting cultures into a single compelling package.

The newly announced Air Max 90 Football Pack features two distinctive variations, each drawing inspiration from celebrated soccer cleats. The collection incorporates design DNA from the Total 90 Laser and the Hypervenom Phantom 1, creating hybrid sneakers that honor both running and football heritage.

Total 90 Laser Influence

The first iteration pays homage to the 2007 Total 90 Laser boot, featuring the signature raised T90 branding with distinctive concentric circle patterns adorning the vamp area. A standout feature includes a transparent outsole that reveals an X-ray style foot image beneath the sole, creating a striking visual element that sets this model apart.

This version maintains the classic Air Max 90 construction while adopting the original Black Vibrant Yellow colorway that made the soccer boot famous. The design builds upon Nike’s recent success with the Total 90 revival, following the popular relaunch of the 2004 Total 90 3 model that quickly sold out upon release.

Hypervenom Phantom Design

The second model draws from the Hypervenom Phantom 1, presenting a cleaner aesthetic with a textured, dimpled upper surface. This version eliminates traditional overlays in favor of printed design elements that reference both the original Air Max 90 and the soccer cleat that inspired it.

A notable detail includes skull and crossbones imagery positioned beneath the medial collar area. The sneaker adopts the Black Bright Citrus colorway, which holds special significance as the exact combination worn by Neymar during his Barcelona debut in 2013. The Hypervenom line, which operated from 2013 to 2017, served as the successor to the Total 90 series that ran from 2000 to 2012.

Release Information

Both models in the Air Max 90 Football Pack are scheduled for release on May 21st through Nike’s Snkrs application and authorized retail partners. Each pair will be priced at $150, positioning them within the premium sneaker market while remaining accessible to dedicated collectors and casual enthusiasts alike.

This release continues Nike’s strategy of creating cross-sport hybrid designs, capitalizing on nostalgia while introducing classic soccer aesthetics to the broader sneaker community. The collection represents a thoughtful fusion of athletic heritage, combining the technical innovation of running shoes with the bold visual identity of professional football gear.
