Former Government Efficiency Department Worker Accused of Stealing Citizens’ Social Security Information

A former software engineer who worked for the Department of Government Efficiency has been accused of unlawfully obtaining sensitive Social Security Administration data and transferring it to a portable storage device, according to a whistleblower complaint detailed in recent reports.

The individual allegedly informed colleagues at his subsequent workplace that he had acquired access to two highly classified databases containing American citizens’ personal information and intended to utilize this data in his new position. The Social Security Administration’s inspector general has launched an investigation into these allegations following the whistleblower’s complaint.

The unnamed former employee had been employed at the Social Security Administration during the previous year before departing in October to join a government contracting firm. At his new workplace, he reportedly disclosed to coworkers that he had obtained two critical databases known as ‘Numident’ and the ‘Master Death File.’ These databases potentially contain records for over 500 million Americans, both living and deceased, encompassing Social Security numbers, birth locations and dates, citizenship status, racial and ethnic information, and parental names.

The individual also allegedly boasted about having previously held unlimited administrative access to SSA systems, describing his privileges as ‘God-level’ access.

A Social Security Administration representative, operating under the Department of Government Efficiency’s oversight, refuted claims that any former employee had stolen citizen data. The spokesperson characterized the reporting as sensationalized content designed to generate web traffic and spread misinformation targeting senior citizens. The inspector general’s office, which operates independently from the current administration, has not yet provided a response to requests for comment.

This incident represents another in a series of alleged data security breaches involving American personal information connected to the Department of Government Efficiency and its involvement with the Social Security Administration. Earlier this year, two department members faced suspicion of improperly accessing and distributing Social Security numbers that were beyond their authorized scope, allegedly to assist an advocacy organization attempting to challenge election outcomes in multiple states.

Additional concerns arose when another internal whistleblower reported that department personnel had compromised Americans’ security by transferring hundreds of millions of Social Security records to an inadequately protected cloud server. Previously, a federal judge had restricted the department’s access to SSA systems, criticizing the organization for conducting what amounted to an unfocused search for fraudulent activity.

Following the change in administration, multiple Department of Government Efficiency personnel were positioned within the Social Security Administration. Reports indicate that approximately twelve department employees, primarily technical specialists and engineers, were assigned to the agency, though their specific responsibilities and activities remained undisclosed to existing staff members.
