Donna Karan to Executive Produce ‘Mister Halston’ Play at Bay Street Theater

Fashion icon Donna Karan has been announced as executive producer for the world premiere of ‘Mister Halston,’ a theatrical production scheduled to debut at Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor, New York. The production will run from June 2 through June 21 at the theater’s location on Long Wharf.

Karan will collaborate with Tony Award-winning producer Bruce Robert Harris to bring this biographical drama to the stage, marking a significant partnership in the theatrical world.

The new play, written by Raffaele Pacitti and helmed by director Michael Wilson, delves into the extraordinary life of the iconic American fashion designer Halston. Set during the dynamic and turbulent decades of the 1970s and 1980s in New York City, the production promises an intimate portrayal of the designer’s journey from unprecedented success to his eventual downfall.

Expressing her enthusiasm for the project, Karan revealed her connection to the work began after witnessing a workshop performance the previous summer at Bay Street Theater. She praised Halston’s revolutionary impact on American fashion, highlighting his signature aesthetic of clean lines, pure silhouettes, flowing fabrics, and sensual appeal that influenced generations of designers.

The collaboration between Karan and Bay Street Theater has deeper roots, as the venue honored her alongside Christie Brinkley at their 2025 gala celebration. During that event, the creative team behind ‘Mister Halston’ presented a special tribute performance commemorating the historic 1973 ‘Battle of Versailles’ fashion showcase in France.

This legendary fashion competition featured prominent American designers including Oscar de la Renta, Bill Blass, Anne Klein with her assistant Donna Karan, Halston, and Stephen Burrows facing off against French fashion houses represented by Yves Saint Laurent, Hubert de Givenchy, Pierre Cardin, Emanuel Ungaro, and Marc Cohan from Christian Dior. The event became a pivotal moment in establishing American fashion’s global prominence.
